How to Write a Research Essay on Apache Native Americans

How to Write a Research Essay on Apache Native Americans The research essay is a scientific form of writing, one which is typically done for social science courses or as a follow up assignment to a lab or experiment you conducted. Research based writing is less creative, has more a formal structure, and requires you to back up everything you claim with evidence. Evidence can come in the form of data, statistics, or quotes from an expert in the field, etc†¦ Research essays require you to spend time, as the name would suggest, researching the topic. Your goal is to learn as much about your topic as possible so that you can support each claim you make and refute any opposition. When you are working on a piece like this, you want to first brainstorm some topics that are of personal interest to you. The more interested you are in the topic, the easier the research will be and the more passionate your arguments. If you are already familiar to some degree with a topic that is even better because it will reduce the amount of time you spend on background research. If possible, you can always tie in two or more ideas about which seem to you challenging and exciting. For example, you can relate your topic of Apache Native Americans to cultural changes in the US, so long as you present evidence to support your claims. The more facts and data you can present to support your argument, the better informed your reader will be. You also want to ensure that you cover the opposing viewpoint in one of your body paragraphs and in that, refute it with reasoning and facts supported with evidence. For your research essay, you can use superb facts on Apache Native Americans that are written for you. Before you begin the writing process, you need to create an outline as to the points you want to make and find reputable data to support the points. When evaluating evidence, make sure to review the source, the author, and where it was found. Reputable sources generally derive from academic databases, books authored by noted scholars in their fields, and peer reviewed journals. Information derived from such sources will go a long way in supporting your argument. When you start the writing process, you are better off beginning with your thesis statement and your body paragraphs. The introduction and conclusion are both best written after you have a solid middle. The reason for this is that the introduction and conclusion both serve as a summary, to some degree, of the content within the body paragraphs and if you have yet to draft those, you will not be in a good position to write about what you haven’t drafted. For each body paragraph, you want to present roughly the same amount of evidence. If, for example, your first body paragraph is supported by three pieces of evidence (two sets of statistics and one quote from an expert) you want to try and ascertain three pieces of evidence for the other body paragraphs as well. This will provide a more well-rounded presentation. These tips are prepared for you because it is a common knowledge that writing a research paper takes time and much patience. We hope that they will help you and you will write only the best papers.

A Chiling Hike Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

A Chiling Hike - Essay Example The trails were set aside by the City of Desoto and Dallas County. The Roy Orr Hiking Trail is a 3.6 mile trail nestled in the heart of Desoto, and it consists of five different possible routes: Mirkes Parkway-Town Center, Town Center-Polk Street, Polk Street-Meadows Pkwy, Meadows Parkway-Plantation, and Plantation-Murphy Hills Park. Depending on the season, the trail includes beautiful waterfronts and rolling hills, a few of which are gentle and a few of which are steep. In my opinion, it is one of the best hiking areas in the metro area. I decided to walk the trail in spite of the wintry weather Texas was experiencing. I hadn’t walked the trail in about four months, so I set out to see what new things I would discover during my wintery walk. It was the first time that I had walked the trail during the winter months. Texas is usually seasonable even in winter; people don’t associate it with snow and ice. However, sometimes it does snow in Texas, and during my hike, thi s was one of those times. I wore lots of layers and took a notebook, a pencil, and my thermos full of hot coffee. When I started on the trail at 1PM, it was 17 degrees, and there was no one around. Usually I see a few other people around on the trails, but on this day it was very empty. Also, because the trees had all lost their leaves, I was able to see farther along the sides of the trail.

This Business is Ministry Essay Example for Free

This Business is Ministry Essay Abstract Man of God, Ministry, Counselor, Pastor these are the typical titles associated with people who are working inside of a religious ministry, however one title not spoken of and yet is essential and plays a critical part in the success of the other titles is entrepreneur. Like myself, you may have never place entrepreneur amongst the list of titles, I understand, because until recent studies I never would have considered the life of a Pastor to also be the life of an entrepreneur and without question a very skilled one. This paper reflects upon the challenges and rewards of being an entrepreneur inside of what is typically a profession that most would never consider a business. The challenges that pastor’s face is the same as any other entrepreneur such as Financing your business, how to get customers and when to quit your day job! Without great challenges there would be no reward ministry has rewards such as helping others, however as a business that reward does not pay the bills and the challenge is to keep your passion and find ways to ensure that this passion sustains your everyday life. This Business is Ministry The first definition on entrepreneur was merely someone who developed something. In due course, it became someone who owned a business typically a a business that delivered goods or services, However the best definition, the one used most often today, is someone who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks for a business or enterprise. I believe that the evolving of the definition was due to the realization that untraditional service utilizes the basic model for business to survive thus saying that a business can be anything that needs organization, a system that needs to be managed and that assumes certain risk. How to Get Customers Finding customers can be a challenge if you do not have a good product or service. The challenge intensifies when your business is not a business that typically sells goods or provide services. If you have a good product or service then customers will come and a great marketing strategy will boost sales. Unfortunately, for Pastors such as David Grant of Covenant Keepers Christian Center people are not typically buying a good or service when they enter into a place of worship, many do not come to give rather they come to receive. These souls come for encouragement, motivation, and inspiration and often they are poor, unemployed, or unwilling to give money past a certain amount. Many never realize that the church needs consistent followers or customers in order to provide those needs of the people who enter into the place of worship. How can a church find customers? That answer is tricky because you cannot instead you must find a soul in need meet them where they need to be met, help play a pivotal role in their spiritual development or transformation and then if they continue to attend allow them to spread the good news about where they was and where they find themselves now. â€Å"This is known as testimony,† says Pastor David Grant but in business, we call it marketing. Financing your Business â€Å"People may not know or even see the church as a business, however a church must operate like a for-profit business,† (Grant, 2014) Overall, as stated by Stephen A. Kent, church can be seen as a multi-faceted transnational corporation that has religion as only one of its many components. (Grant, 2014) In January of 2008, Pastor Grant revamped his approach to ministry  after two failed attempts and began to understand the business side of his passion he opened up Covenant Keepers Christian Center Inc. only this time in Brooklyn New York. Armed with a new mindset, business courses, and a new plan of action Pastor Grant was ready to be an entrepreneur whose business was operating a church or place of worship. â€Å"Let’s face it, it takes money to successfully do anything, and church is no exception, have you ever tried paying your light bill by praying with the representative?† (Grant, 2014) Some of the churches finances come from donations from members and people in the community this system of voluntary giving is the Tithing and Offering system. The Tithing and Offering system is bible-based instructions on giving to God’s house, the amount you are expected to give which 10% of your gross income and by not doing so it explains that you are robbing God, however many spiritual blessings are rewarded to those who follow these principles. The bible based instructions first asks a question Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.† But you ask, How are we robbing you? In tithes and offerings.† (Malachi 3:10). The bible gives instructions on how much each person is to give, â€Å"Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way, says the LORD of Armies. See if I wont open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings. (Malachi 3 verses 8) Typically, these finances maintain the needs of the church and the Pastor of the flock, however in today’s economy many are unemployed or have low wages, those who give a tenth is usually not enough, and as a result many churches are forced to close the doors because of a lack of finances to finance the business and the dream. Today Pastor Grant is a successful business owner who has successfully turned his compassion for people into a successful small business that has many branches such as family counseling, marriage/pre-marriage counseling, drug addiction, motivational seminars, and of course pastoring his parish. When to quit your day job? The right time to quit your day job is when you have a surefire business opportunity or you have adequate money in the depository that will allow you to work on your business and allow you to have enough resources to maintain your daily living. As with any business, money is needed to survive and nothing less is expected when you have a  church. Pastor Grant is a hard working individual who maintained his mainstream job and major source of income and allowed that job to help support his vision some call this a sideline job. Pastor Grant is successful, however has not found enough comfort to quit his day job. â€Å"I will leave my job when I know the church is 100% financially independent on a consistent basis and will be able to maintain a yearly salary for those who it employees. Reflections Entrepreneurship is the art work painted by a visionary, The interesting moment for me was when the realization that a business is not only the traditional selling of goods and services, however an entrepreneur can bring to life a vision that he/she has and with the right tools in place open a business that is lucrative. The idea that you can be a business owner simply by bringing to the table virtually any passion and make that passion a source of income without the selling of goods and services only is a fresh idea and is one that should be explored further. Pastor David Grant understood that his business was in his passion and took his passion to help others and accomplished his task as well as established a full time business. Pastor Grant admits he has not accomplished all, however he dedicated to reaching his goal, and I look forward to updating the readers about the great businessperson. References Grant, D. Adoph Hitler :: essays research papers

The young years: Adoph Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 and lived in south Austria. He left for high school at the age of twelve and did poorly and never did finish. In 1903, his father died when Hitler was only fourteen years old. In 1907, Hitler decided to leave for Vienna to attend the Academy School of Fine Arts. Due to his unsatisfactory drawings, Hitler failed to be accepted. Soon after that, he received a letter from his sister informing him of his mother’s illness, cancer. Hitler headed back home to stay with his mother until the end. His mother died in the year of 1907, and Hitler tried again at the Academy School of Fine Arts. He was, again, rejected due to severe competition of acceptance. Hitler sold his paintings on the streets in order to survive. In August 1914, Hitler volunteered for the army. Later in his army career he received two of the most honorable awards, the first class iron cross. A man told Hitler of a rumor stating the Bavarian government is going to break away from Germany and join Austria. Outraged, Hitler gave many persuasive speeches on why the government shouldn’t break away. Later Hitler took over a group and renaming it NSADAP, which is infamously known as the Nazi party. Hitler tried taking over the Bavarian government by force. This invasion caused his imprisonment of five years, but he happened to be released after about six months. While in prison, he began writing his book Mein Kamph (My Struggle). When Hitler was released from prison, he quickly found out that the Nazi party membership has fallen drastically. The party was no longer allowed to have private and public meetings and Hitler could no longer speak in public. Hitler was determined to bring the Nazi party back together. The party began to grow slowly and in secret, and after the stock market crash hundreds and soon thousands joined each month due to the public rallies produced by Hitler. With his popularity growing at an outrageous speed, Hitler decided to take over the whole country. Before the elections, he launched a major propaganda campaign. He soon won a seat in the Reichstag, German congress. Hitler had a chance at becoming Chancellor, but was beat out by the previous Chancellor, Charles Bruning. Now the Nazi was official the second largest party in the country, next to the Communist.

Health Disparities

Now a days it is very common that people’s health depends on their income rate, social environment and the area we live in, and now the mortality rate is very remarkable between areas of the community, what does the mortality rate has to do with our location? Here in San Antonio, diabetes mortality rate is very high but it is higher in some places than others, and this is because a person’s income influences their location, according to research data about diabetes mortality rate in Bexar county, areas that are located in the north have a lower mortality rate in the county. To compare the mortality and income rate between zip codes, I choose a zip code from an area of lower diabetes mortality rate and another one from an area with a higher rate.78232 is a zip code located in the north side of the county, here the mortality rate is lower than in other areas, and 78237 which is located in the center, according to data in â€Å"community facts† the income rate in bot h areas changes significantly, people located in 78232 make an average of 65,887 a year and in 78237 drops to an average of 25,703 a year, so according to that information, where the income is higher, the mortality rate is lower, that is what also influences a person’s social group, and living areas, people live in places where they have access to all the accommodations they can afford to live better.According to the article â€Å"Social status has a measurable effect on health† studies show what are the main causes of health disparities, mostly in the united states, even though health care has improved a lot and it is better than years before, not everybody can get it, and that is because some people have a lower income rate and cannot afford it as easy as someone with a higher rate, and that also influences a person’s location in the community which may lead to unhealthy environments such as toxic substances, violent household, dangerous working place and stre ss, so people tend to have more health issues than someone who earns more money. If I was the major of San Antonio I would invest more money on building improved healthcare clinics all over the city no matter what the social status of people in each area is, so that way people can have better access to those facilities to go get checked more often for free, that way they can all prevent a more serious health issues that it is going to cost more money that poor people cannot easily afford.Transportation also becomes an issue for health care access, many people do not go to a doctor because they don not have a way of transportation, so I would invest some more money in public transportation all around the city, that way everybody has easier access to a hospital when they are facing a more serious health problem that needs to be taken to a hospital. Also a doctor’s experience it is very important for patients to have a healthier life, and getting good experienced doctors from bet ter hospitals to other hospitals located in lower income areas, that way everyone in the city are able to get doctors with the same experience level.I think it is fair for everyone to get the same opportunities when it comes to health care regardless of their income or their location, because it is harder to improve a person’s living conditions and influences than improving health care access, it may not completely prevent people from getting sick, but it should reduce the risks for their health getting worse if they can get checked more often than they did before, also considering pre natal care for pregnant woman that need a doctor more often than anybody else, they have to be very healthy during their pregnancy and having a doctor close to their home, it is easier for them to get the required precautions to have a healthy baby, because according to the article â€Å" Health Divides† studies show that the baby mortality rate has remained the same over the years but i t should be lower now that health care has improved so much, but it has not been equally accessible for everybody, that is why woman get little to none pre natal care needed to have a healthy baby. Some woman that did not have a good education have lower job opportunities, and need to work more to barely support themselves and that keeps them from focusing on their baby’s health and their own during pregnancy, also it is more common for low income pregnant woman to smoke or drink alcohol than higher income woman, which it is influenced by their living conditions and social group. In Conclusion, the main problem is not the quality of health care but the access everyone is getting, everywhere is different and in some places is harder to get the medical attention one needs to prevent a serious health problem or improve their family’s health, and most people would want to improve their health but their low level of education is a great disadvantage to get a better job and e arn a higher income. Even though we take good care of ourselves we cannot prevent health issues that is why we all need constant medical attention.

Correlation Paper Essay

Correlation Correlations measure the relationship between two variables. Establishing correlations allows researchers to make predictions that increase the knowledge base. Different methods that establish correlations are used in different situations. Each method has advantages and disadvantages that provide researchers information that is used to understand, rank, and visually illustrate how variables are related. The Pearson’s, Spearman, Kendall Rank, and positive and negative correlation are methods used to establish a correlation between variables. The Pearson method is a simple linear correlation used or illustrate how strong of a relationship two variables have. The Spearman method ranks data by order or name and is often used because the equation is simpler than Pearson’s. The Kendall Rank method measures the strength of dependence between two sets of random variables. Depending on the use of the information will determine the best method for the research project. Each metho d has advantages and disadvantages. The research project and individual researcher weigh out the positive and negatives in order to determine the best method. It is agreed that the Pearson’s method is easy to understand and illustrates the strength of the correlation. A prominent disadvantage is there can be confusion because it may be assumed that correlation establishes causation. The Spearman advantage is it can rank order or name data in various ways, depending on the data collected. The disadvantage discussed is there may be a focus on ranking and not on the information that creates the rank. The positive and negative correlation method has the advantage that a lot of variables and situations can be used. Variables can be studied using this method that experiments cannot be conducted on. The clear disadvantage discussed is that no cause and effect relationship can be assumed. Another discussed disadvantage of this method is that it does not account for other variables th at may contribute to studied variables. Information reveals creating  correlations in research using the Pearson method would be useful in domestic violence because it is a method that is easy to understand. The Spearman method that ranks data was discussed to be useful in the area of ranking of comfort qualities provided by hospice and GPA or SAT rankings. The Kendal Rank method measures strengths of dependence between two sets of variables like GPA and job performance in the degree field. Discussion about reading proficiency in children was an example that would utilize the positive and negative method the best. As determined correlation determines the relationship between two variables and is used to make predictions in research. Each method has clear advantages and disadvantages, but it is agreed that the easier the method is to understand the more useful it is. One key point that causes confusion is the relationship between correlation and causation. It was determined that to avoid the error that a cause can be assumed based on a correlation attention must be paid to the specific method. Not every method is designed to illustrate cause and affect relationships. References Ling, R. F. (1982). Reviewed work (s): Correlation and Causation. by David A. The Role of Caliban in The Tempest

The Role of Caliban in 'The Tempest' The Tempest- written in 1610, and generally considered William Shakespeares final play as well as the last of his romances- includes elements of both tragedy and comedy. The story takes place on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, schemes to restore his daughter Miranda to her proper place on the throne using manipulation and illusion. He conjures up a storm- the eponymous tempest- to lure his power-hungry brother Antonio and the conspiring King Alonso to the island. Caliban is an original inhabitant of the island, the bastard son of the witch Sycorax and the devil. He is a base and earthy slave who mirrors and contrasts several of the other characters in the play. Caliban believes that Prospero stole the island from him, which would make Prospero a colonial (and perhaps villainous) occupier. Man or Monster? Caliban symbolizes his mothers black magic; at first, he appears to be a bad person as well as a poor judge of character. Prospero has conquered him, so out of revenge, Caliban plots to murder Prospero. He accepts Stefano as a god and entrusts his two drunken and scheming collaborators with his murderous plot. In some ways, though, Caliban is also innocent and childlike, almost like someone who doesnt know any better. Because he is the islands only inhabitant, he doesnt even know how to speak until Prospero and Miranda arrive. He is driven solely by his emotional and physical needs, and he doesnt understand the people around him or the events that take place. Caliban doesnt fully think through- perhaps because he lacks the ability- the consequences of his actions. Other characters often refer to Caliban as a monster. As the audience, though, our response to him is more ambiguous: on the one hand, his grotesque appearance and misguided decision-making may cause us to side with Prospero. On the other, however, our sympathies are manipulated by Calibans passion for the island and his desire to be loved. His knowledge of the land demonstrates his native status; as such, its fair to say that he has been unfairly enslaved by Prospero. However, Caliban does make a number of regretful decisions- for example, he trusts Stefano and makes a fool of himself with drink. He is also rather savage in devising his plot to kill Prospero (though no more savage than Prospero is in setting the hounds upon him). One has to respect Caliban’s proud refusal to serve Prospero, perhaps a true sign of power in The Tempest. Caliban is a complex and sensitive character whose naivete leads him to foolishness. A Point of Contrast In many ways, Calibans character serves as a mirror or contrast to other characters in the play. In his sheer brutality, he reflects the darker side of Prosperos vengeance, and his desire to rule the island mirrors Antonios ambition (which ultimately leads to the overthrow of Prospero). Calibans plot to murder Prospero also mirrors Antonio and Sebastians plot to kill Alonso. Like Ferdinand, Caliban finds Miranda beautiful and desirable. However, Ferdinands traditional approach to courtship is very different from Calibans attempt to rape Miranda in order to people the isle with Calibans. By contrasting the base and lowly Caliban with the nobles, Shakespeare forces the audience to think critically about how each uses manipulation and violence to achieve their goals.

There’s a lot of information packed in here. How can you actually start reviewing for the AP test? In the next section, I’ll give you some advice on how to create a study plan that will get you the best score possible! This represents your progression towards a 5 as you go through the review plan. Hopefully, you'll end up less arrogant than the dude on the tallest pillar, though. He needs to tone down the attitude. AP World History Review Plan Here's a step-by-step review plan for the AP World History exam that will get you on the right track with your studying. Step 1: Take and Score a Diagnostic Test The first step in your review should be taking a full practice test to see where you’re scoring on the AP scale.Based on your scores, you can set a goal for yourself and make study plans that fit with the amount of work you need to do to improve. When you take this test, you should adhere to the time guidelines set by the real exam: 55 minutes for the 55 multiple-choice questions 50 minutes for the four short-answer questions 55 minutes for the document based question 35 minutes for the long essay questions It’s a challenge to write this fast, so you should get used to it as soon as possible. Also, circle any multiple-choice questions where you weren’t entirely sure of the answer. Even if you get them right, you should still review the content. If you find you’re in the lower range for a certain AP score, you should continue to work on your skills even if you’re satisfied with that score. The curve tends to get tougher over time, so the calculator givesa slightly inflated score estimate. Step 2: Analyze Your Mistakes After you take and score your test, go through your mistakes and detect any issues you had with the material.Categorize your mistakes by era so that you can get a better idea of what you need to study.Note any patterns that occurred. Were you especially rusty in one geographic area? Did questions dealing with particular themes give you the most trouble?Take this step very seriously because it will get you on the right track with your studying going forward! Step 3: Study Relevant Content Areas Now that you’ve gone through your mistakes, it’s time to dive back into your notes and review whatever you forgot.Work your way through all the gaps in your memory that manifested themselves on the test.Make sure that you’re absorbing the information and not just reading it over.Follow the tips in the previous section on looking for larger themes, and check in with yourself after each section of notes to make sure what you learned didn’t fall out of your brain immediately. Step 4: Essay Dress Rehearsal The next step before taking another practice test is to do a little essay rehearsal.I'll reemphasize the importance of practicing essay writing skills in the upcoming strategy section, butI also think they warrant their own step in the study process. Just knowing the information won’t guarantee you a high essay score if you write too slowly or aren’t prepared to connect specific examples with trends and themes.Take a look back at your first test, and note the strengths and weaknesses of your essays.Try to write new essays (or essay outlines) that improve on your original essays and would score higher based on the AP guidelines. Step 5: Take Another Practice Test Finally, take another practice test to see whether all that studying paid off!If you find that you’re happy with your new score, you can take a break and just do a few light review sessions before the test. If you’re still unsatisfied, you can repeat the study process again using the results of this test. If you find that you haven’t improved from the first test, you need to reexamine your study methods and your analysis of incorrect answers. You may have been distracted during part of the process or read through your notes too quickly without understanding them on a deeper level. Attention to detailis key if you want to see big improvements! Here’s an estimate of the timeline for these five steps: Step 1: 3.5 hours Step 2: 1 hour Step 3: 2 hours Step 4: 2 hours Step 5: 3.5 hours That’s a total of around 12 hours for one cycle ofthis process. It’s well worth your time to go through it at least once if you’re dedicated to earning a great score! Twelve hours is but a blink of an eye compared to the whole of human history! Try not to think about that too much. AP World History Review Tips and Strategies These are three of the most important strategies to keep in your back pocket as you review. Check out this article to findadditional study tips for AP World History! Strategy #1: Don’t Try to Memorize Everything The main thing you should know about AP World History, before you start reviewing, is that you’re not expected to memorize tons of specific dates or the names of every ruler of every empire in history.Don’t fill up valuable space in your memory with minute details that most likely won't come up on the test. You should have a good idea of how major events have progressed chronologically in each region throughout history, but there’s no need to get into the nitty gritty of less prominent names and places.Study the same way you might read Lord of the Rings (I assume you’ve done this if you’re truly a nerd):Skim over the insane names of minor characters and places that are peripheral to the main storyline, but hold onto key details that will allow you to make logical sense of the plot as you progress through the book. Strategy #2: Look for the Themes A strong understanding of the five themes and the ability to connect them to events throughout history is the key to doing well on this test.As you study content, think back to how the themes might play into the reasons for shifts in political dynamics, cultural developments, or other trends. This can help you to come up with supporting examples to use in your free-response essays. The essays will ask you to explain changes over time and compare different societies. The course themes are great jumping-off points for your essays that will help you explain how events are connected and why societies have adopted different values or political systems. Strategy #3: Practice Essay-Writing Skills I want to doubly emphasize the fact that the free-response section is your most challenging obstacle to a high score on AP World History. Twoessays in an hour and a half is no easy task, even for the best writers! That’s why it’s critical to practice plenty of essays before you sit down to take the real test. If you’re short on time, you don’t have to practice full essays. However, you should at least write a thesis and then outline how you would support it with specific examples. For the DBQ, which many students find to be the most challenging question on the test, look at questions from past exams, and think about how you would weave together your analysis of all the documents. Here’s some more information on the DBQ and what you need to include in your answer to get a high score. Just be thankful that you don't have to read the original documents. Most of these things are so illegible that I wouldn't be surprised if we were completely wrong about certain parts of our history. Conclusion Reviewing for AP World History doesn't have to be a super stressful experience. Despite the fact that the exam covers a huge amount of content, it's also pretty forgiving if you happen to forget some of the minor historical players. Themes and long-term trends are the focus of both the course and the exam. To recap, this is the process I recommend for conducting your review: Step 1: Take and Score a Diagnostic Test Step 2: Analyze Your Mistakes Step 3: Study Relevant Content Areas Step 4: Essay Dress Rehearsal Step 5: Take Another Practice Test As you go through these steps, some strategies to keep in mind are: #1: Don't Try to Memorize Every Little Detail #2: Look for the Themes #3: Practice Essay Writing Skills Regularly As you do more practice and start to get used to the format and content of the test, you'll see that a 5 is definitely within reach if you put in a strong effort! Proposal Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Proposal - Article Example Infringing products have consequently been targeted for a ban in the United States, including Samsung's front line, iconic Galaxy series phones. The message seems to be this, that Apple will protect its American turf from Samsung, which it views as largely copying Apple's designs and technologies for the iPhone. The peripheral goal, too, is to make sure that Samsung is put on notice as Apple brings the fight to other markets and legal jurisdictions the world over. There are big underlying logistics and design considerations that are tied to these battles, apart from the patents, but the patent front is the busiest by far, and most visible. This is owing to the fact that in the smart phone market, whoever holds the patents for key technologies and innovations have the ability to dictate the terms of their use. Meanwhile, what complicates the picture is that both rely on economies of scale and efficiency in parts production and sourcing. Moreover, tied to this, Samsung is also a suppli er of essential components of smart phones to Apple. This being the case, it is difficult for the two players to untangle themselves from the patent mess that they find themselves in. For Samsung it is a delicate balancing act, because as much as they need to compete in smart phones, they also rely on Apple to shore up their own components business, and losing Apple would amount to losing a valuable components customer. For Apple, the tussles with Samsung on the smart phones front highlights their need to find alternative suppliers for essential components (Lohr, 2012; Lloyd et al., 2011; Cromar, 2010; Gerardin and Layne-Farrar, 2011; Seppala and Kenney, 2012; Layne-Farrar, 2012; Boldrin and Levine, 2012; Siren, 2011; Gotts and Sher, 2012; Hagiu and Yoffie, 2011; Allison et al., 2012). Problem Formulation The literature review has highlighted the need for innovation around key aspects of technology, components, design, and software for both Samsung and Apple moving forward. Also, as far as Samsung is concerned, Apple's litigation win underscores the need to shore up Samsung's intellectual property portfolio in order to protect its smart phones business and to make sure that Samsung continues to dominate the market in the future. One key problem is that while Samsung has an enviable position as a key manufacturer of essential smart phones components, and benefits from scale economies by being so, its reliance on Android and its seeming problems with defending itself from intellectual property lawsuits from Apple and other firms makes it vulnerable. The problem is how is Samsung to position itself and to spend its money and resources so that it is able to get itself into a better position relative to the intellectual property battles it is engaged in with Apple and other firms (Lohr, 2012; Lloyd et al., 2011; Cromar, 2010; Gerardin and Layne-Farrar, 2011; Seppala and Kenney, 2012; Layne-Farrar, 2012; Boldrin and Levine, 2012; Siren, 2011; Gotts and Sher, 2012; H agiu and Yoffie, 2011; Allison et al., 2012). . Proposal This is a proposal that takes off from the problem formulation above, and tries to come up with a viable strategy for Samsung relative to its competitors in the global smart phones market. That strategy has to address the gap in Samsung's arsenal of patents related to innovations in basic technologies, components, and design, among other things. The proposal is to explore different strategic options

Reflection paper Term Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Reflection - Term Paper Example In the second section, the professor taught us how to write. We were given different kinds of assignments. Doing those assignments was a means of learning to write academically and professionally. Now that I reflect on my writing skills, I find noticeable improvement in the content, structure, organization, and quality of writing I produce. The most interesting thing about this course was the syllabus. The topics we discussed and wrote about were primarily oriented around freedom and independence. We learnt different ways in which advanced technology promoted personal freedom as well as intervened in people’s personal rights and space. For example, while we can explore the world and capture precious moments using the cameras of our smartphones, we can also freely take anybody’s pictures without having them even realize that they are being photographed. This is an intervention in an individual’s personal space and freedom but technology has equipped us to do this. We have to resort to our moral values to behave ethically in such scenarios and make only positive use of the technology in our hands. Similarly, we did an assignment where we discussed how cameras can be used to record people cheating on their spouses or how lie-detection machines can be used to learn the secret. All these practices come with certain advantages and disadvantages, with the disadvantage being primarily intervention in others’ personal freedom. We should use our moral judgment and conscience to make optimal use of such technology and avoid its secret use unless the benefits of the same outweigh the demerits. To discourage the inappropriate use of technology, the government should formulate laws and regulations to guide people’s behavior. People intervening in others’ personal space without consent and for unjustifiable reasons should be held accountable for their secret endeavors. Personal freedom is the fundamental right of every human being and must be granted. The
